How Much Does a Paver Patio Cost in Melbourne, Florida?

Paver patio and pool deck costs in Melbourne and Brevard County: dated local prices, sample budgets, slab removal, drainage and permit questions.

Last updated: Checked against official sources: 9 min readBy the Florida Renovation Guide editorial teamTopic: Outdoor Living

The short answer

  • Our Florida planning ranges put installed concrete pavers at about $12–$18 per square foot, travertine at $17–$28 and porcelain at $20–$32.
  • A 12 x 16 ft concrete paver patio works out to roughly $2,300–$3,500, or about $2,700–$4,600 if an old concrete slab has to come out first.
  • The only Melbourne-specific prices we found date from 2022, at $14–$17 per square foot for concrete pavers. Treat them as a dated reference, not a 2026 price.
  • Slab removal, base preparation, drainage and the paver you choose move the price most. Pool decks add questions about the pool barrier and the screen enclosure.
  • Melbourne handles flatwork and driveways through city ordinance permits. Ask your building department whether your patio needs a permit before work starts.

Plan on about $12–$18 per square foot installed for a concrete paver patio in Melbourne, using our Florida planning ranges, so a 12 x 16 ft patio comes to roughly $2,300–$3,500. The only Melbourne-specific paver prices we found date from 2022, and their concrete paver figure of $14–$17 per square foot falls inside that range. Removing an old concrete slab, choosing travertine or porcelain, and drainage work push the total up.

Paver patio cost per square foot

Installed paver cost (per sq. ft.; excavation, compacted base, sand bedding and edge restraint included)
ItemEstimated rangeWhat affects it
Concrete pavers$12–$18per sq. ft.The most common patio, driveway and pool deck choice.
Travertine pavers$17–$28per sq. ft.Natural stone. Popular for pool decks. Price depends on grade and finish.
Porcelain pavers$20–$32per sq. ft.Dense, low-maintenance and consistent. Cutting adds labor.
Estimates in US dollars, installed, typical of Florida pricing. Not a quote. Ranges reviewed October 11, 2026.

These are our statewide planning ranges, not Melbourne survey data. They include excavation, a compacted base, sand bedding and edge restraint. They assume a lump-sum contract in which the contractor's price includes sales tax on materials. They don't include permit or HOA fees, drainage changes, steps, retaining walls or new pool coping.

What puts a job at the low or high end

  • Low end: plain concrete pavers in one color and a simple pattern, a rectangular patio with square corners, open access for equipment, and nothing to tear out first.
  • Middle: concrete pavers with a contrasting border, a few curves, cuts around posts or drains, and polymeric joint sand.
  • High end: travertine or porcelain, a pattern with many cuts around a pool, planters or curves, an old slab to break out and haul away, and cleaning and sealing at the end.

Square footage drives the total, so measure before you call anyone. For an L-shaped patio, add the rectangles together.

What published Melbourne prices show

We found one set of Melbourne-specific paver prices, on a national cost-guide website's Melbourne pages. They're dated May 2022 (pavers) and April 2022 (concrete patios):

  • Sand-set concrete pavers: about $14–$17 per square foot installed, including a 4 in. compacted aggregate base and a 1 in. sand bed.
  • Brick pavers: about $15–$19 per square foot.
  • Whole patios: about $1,400–$1,700 for 10 x 10 ft and $2,300–$2,800 for 12 x 14 ft, in concrete pavers.
  • Pavers set on a concrete slab base: about $4–$7 more per square foot.
  • Removing an existing patio: about $1.20–$2.00 per square foot (from the concrete patio page).

These figures are more than four years old, and they're published estimates from a cost-guide website, not quotes. The concrete paver figure sits inside our Florida range. The removal figure is below our current planning range of $2–$6 per square foot. We didn't find any 2025 or 2026 Melbourne or Brevard paver prices from a source we could rely on, so use the Florida ranges and the examples below to plan, and judge real bids by their written scope.

Pavers or a poured concrete patio?

Plain concrete costs less upfront. The patio and stamped rows below come from the same cost-guide website's 2022 Melbourne pages, so current prices may be higher.

Installed concrete cost (per sq. ft.)
ItemEstimated rangeWhat affects it
Concrete patio slab, reinforced$7–$12per sq. ft.Broom finish. Melbourne cost-guide figures published in 2022; current prices may be higher.
Stamped or decorative concrete$10–$17per sq. ft.Patterns and color add labor. Melbourne cost-guide figures published in 2022; current prices may be higher.
Concrete driveway, new or replaced$6–$16per sq. ft.Forming, base preparation and concrete. A 2026 Tampa estimate shows about $8 to $16; removing the old driveway is extra.
Estimates in US dollars, installed, typical of Florida pricing. Not a quote. Ranges reviewed October 26, 2026.

Pavers cost more upfront. In return, the joints between pavers allow small movements, and a damaged paver can be replaced on its own. Our concrete vs. pavers guide compares the two in more depth, and the Florida paver cost guide covers the materials themselves.

Example budgets for Melbourne-area projects

These examples use only the Florida planning ranges above. They assume a simple rectangle on a flat lot with good access, no drainage changes, no steps or walls, and no permit or HOA fees. Totals are rounded.

ProjectHow we worked it outEstimated range
12 x 16 ft back patio, concrete pavers, on bare ground192 sq. ft. × $12 = $2,304; 192 sq. ft. × $18 = $3,456$2,300–$3,500
Same patio, replacing an old concrete slabPavers as above, plus removal at 192 sq. ft. × $2 = $384 to 192 sq. ft. × $6 = $1,152$2,700–$4,600
Same 12 x 16 ft area as a broom-finish concrete slab192 sq. ft. × $7 = $1,344; 192 sq. ft. × $12 = $2,304$1,300–$2,300
Same area in stamped concrete192 sq. ft. × $10 = $1,920; 192 sq. ft. × $17 = $3,264$1,900–$3,300
400 sq. ft. pool deck, old concrete deck replaced with concrete paversPavers 400 × $12 = $4,800 to 400 × $18 = $7,200, plus removal 400 × $2 = $800 to 400 × $6 = $2,400$5,600–$9,600
400 sq. ft. pool deck in travertine, old deck removed, sealedTravertine 400 × $17 = $6,800 to 400 × $28 = $11,200, plus removal $800–$2,400, plus sealing 400 × $0.75 = $300 to 400 × $3.50 = $1,400$7,900–$15,000

The pool deck examples leave out new coping, deck drains and any work on the screen enclosure. For a like-for-like check, the 12 x 14 ft concrete paver patio that the 2022 Melbourne guide priced at $2,300–$2,800 works out to roughly $2,000–$3,000 on our ranges (168 sq. ft. × $12 = $2,016; 168 sq. ft. × $18 = $3,024).

Removal, sealing and other extras

Other paver costs
ItemEstimated rangeWhat affects it
Removing an existing concrete slab or pool deck$2–$6per sq. ft.Thicker or reinforced concrete and tight access cost more.
Cleaning and sealing pavers$0.75–$3.50per sq. ft.Optional. Repeated every few years if you choose to seal.
Estimates in US dollars, installed, typical of Florida pricing. Not a quote. Ranges reviewed October 11, 2026.

Removing an old slab. Breaking out concrete and hauling it away is the bigger of the two extras in our table. Budget from our $2–$6 range rather than the lower 2022 Melbourne figure. Thick or reinforced concrete and a backyard with no equipment access cost more. If an installer suggests paving over the old slab instead, our Florida paver cost guide explains what to check first.

Cleaning and sealing. Sealing is optional, and if you keep it up it's repeated every few years, so count it as an ongoing cost rather than a one-time extra. The Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute (ICPI) says sealers soak into the joints and can help hold the sand in place, and that they make oil stains easier to remove later. Its cleaning and sealing bulletin says to treat stains first, then clean the whole surface, and that a freshly cleaned pavement is a good time to apply a joint-sand stabilizer or sealer. It recommends products made specifically for concrete pavers and testing a stain remover on a small hidden area first.

Local factors that change the price

Soil, drainage and base depth

Most of what makes a patio last is under the pavers. A trade magazine article on interlocking pavers blames most sinking and shifting on installation errors such as shallow excavation or a weak base. The only base specification we found tied to Melbourne prices is the 2022 cost guide's: its figures assumed a 4 in. compacted aggregate base under a 1 in. sand bed. That tells you what those prices covered. It isn't a standard for your yard.

We didn't find Florida-specific industry guidance on paver bases in sandy soils, so ask each installer to write down the base material, its depth after compaction, how they'll compact it and how they'll deal with soft or wet spots. If one bid is far below the others, compare these lines first.

Drainage is the other cost that hides below the surface. Our ranges assume the patio can simply slope water away from the house. If the new patio would send water toward a neighbor or into a low spot, drainage work will be extra. ICPI's construction inspection checklist flags installing during heavy rain because saturated bedding sand is a problem, so ask whether the crew will wait out a storm. Our concrete vs. pavers guide covers rain, drainage and soil for both surfaces.

Pool decks: the barrier and the enclosure

Brevard County's residential pool permit page says pools must be enclosed by a fence or a screen enclosure with a secure gate, and a deck job can open that barrier when screen panels, a screen door or part of a fence come off for equipment. Ask each bidder how the pool will be kept closed off during the work. Our travertine vs. concrete pavers guide has a checklist for the contract and compares the two pool deck surfaces.

If enlarging the deck means moving the enclosure, check setbacks before you price it, and price the cage work as its own line. In unincorporated Brevard, county code requires a minimum 5 ft setback for pools and pool screen enclosures; in Melbourne, the Building Section FAQ says any encroachment into a required setback needs a variance. Our screened patio and pool cage cost guide covers new cages and rescreening.

HOA communities

If your home is in an HOA community, get architectural approval for the paver, color, pattern and footprint before you sign a contract. Under Florida's 2026 permit law (HB 803), in effect since July 1, 2026, an HOA can't require a building permit as a condition of its review, so you can apply to both at once. See HOA approval in Florida.

Beachside and flood zones

On an oceanfront lot on the barrier island, check whether the patio would sit seaward of the state's coastal construction control line. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection says alteration, excavation or construction seaward of the line generally needs its approval, with certain exceptions. See CCCL permits in Florida.

If your lot is in a flood hazard area, Florida's $7,500 permit exemption doesn't apply to it. That only matters if your building department would otherwise require a permit for the job.

Permits: ask before you dig

Who you ask depends on where the home is. Brevard County's Planning and Development department covers unincorporated areas such as Viera and Merritt Island. Inside city or town limits, such as Melbourne, Palm Bay or West Melbourne, the city or town handles permits. A Melbourne mailing address doesn't prove you're inside city limits. See building permits in Brevard County to find yours.

  • City of Melbourne. The Building Section says city ordinance permits, including those for fences, accessory structures, driveways and flatwork, are separate from building permits and aren't affected by the state's $7,500 exemption. Its inspections page says city code requires inspections for some city-specific items, such as fences, sheds and flatwork. Patios aren't named, so ask whether your project counts as flatwork. The city's FAQ also lists land-disturbing activity among work that needs a permit, so mention the excavation when you ask. Melbourne's FAQ warns that starting work without a required permit can lead to higher costs, delays and even removal of the work.
  • Unincorporated Brevard. We didn't find a county page that says whether an at-grade paver patio needs a permit. Ask Planning and Development before work starts.
  • Driveway extensions. If the project extends a driveway or touches the strip between your lot and the street, expect a separate review. In unincorporated Brevard, right-of-way permits go through Public Works Engineering. See our concrete driveway cost guide for Melbourne.

When you call, also ask whether setback, drainage or lot-coverage rules apply to your lot. Our guide to permits for patios, pergolas and decks in Brevard County goes further.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Budgeting from a 2022 price. The Melbourne figures above are a useful sense check, not a 2026 price.
  • Comparing bids without the base spec. A much cheaper bid can mean less excavation or a thinner base. Get the base material and depth in writing. Our guide to why contractor quotes differ explains what else to compare.
  • Forgetting the old slab. If something has to come out, make sure every quote includes demolition and haul-away.
  • Ignoring where the water goes. Ask how the patio will be graded and where the water will drain before work starts.
  • Leaving the pool open. Agree in advance how the pool barrier will be kept closed during a pool deck job.
  • Starting before approvals. HOA approval and any city or county permit come first.

Next steps

  1. Measure the area and sketch it, including doors, drains, the pool edge and any enclosure posts.
  2. Find out who issues permits for your address and ask whether your patio needs one.
  3. If you're in an HOA, apply for architectural approval.
  4. Ask installers for written quotes with the full scope spelled out, using the checklist in our Florida paver cost guide. For a pool deck, ask them to say in writing how the pool barrier will be kept closed during the job.
  5. Ask your building department which license, if any, the work needs where you live. Then check the license the contractor gives you on MyFloridaLicense.com (state licenses) and on Brevard County's Licensed Contractor Search, which lists only contractors with a current license, liability insurance and workers' compensation coverage or an exemption. Our guide to checking a contractor before hiring walks through the steps.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a paver patio cost in Melbourne, FL?

Using our Florida planning ranges, concrete pavers cost about $12–$18 per square foot installed, so a 12 x 16 ft patio comes to roughly $2,300–$3,500. Travertine and porcelain cost more, and removing an old slab adds about $2–$6 per square foot. Your quote depends on your site, the paver and the scope.

Are the published Melbourne paver prices still current?

Treat them with caution. The Melbourne-specific figures we found, $14–$17 per square foot for sand-set concrete pavers, were published in May 2022. They fall inside our Florida range, but they're more than four years old and are estimates, not quotes.

Do I need a permit for a paver patio in Melbourne?

Ask the city's Building Section. Melbourne handles fences, accessory structures, driveways and flatwork through city ordinance permits that are separate from building permits, and we didn't find patios listed by name. In unincorporated Brevard, ask the county's Planning and Development department.

How much does it cost to remove an old concrete patio before installing pavers?

Our Florida planning range for breaking out and hauling away an existing slab or pool deck is about $2–$6 per square foot. For a 12 x 16 ft slab that's roughly $400–$1,200. Thick or reinforced concrete and tight access push it up.

Is a concrete patio cheaper than pavers in Melbourne?

Usually, upfront. A broom-finish concrete slab of 12 x 16 ft comes to roughly $1,300–$2,300 using the 2022 Melbourne figures in our concrete table, against about $2,300–$3,500 for concrete pavers. Pavers can be lifted and replaced one at a time, which matters if you expect repairs.
