How much does a bathroom remodel cost?
What a bathroom remodel costs in Florida, from a cosmetic refresh to a full primary bath, plus tub-to-shower conversions, glass and slab plumbing.
Project Costs
What tile, luxury vinyl plank, laminate and engineered wood flooring cost to install in Florida per square foot, plus old tile removal and examples.
New flooring transforms a Florida home faster than almost any other project, and most of the cost is labor: removing what's there, preparing the slab and installing the new floor. Here's what to budget.
| Item | Estimated range | What affects it |
|---|---|---|
| Laminate | $3–$7per sq. ft. | Budget-friendly. Not a good choice where water can stand on the floor. |
| Luxury vinyl plank (LVP / SPC) | $5–$9per sq. ft. | Water resistant and quiet. Laid over Florida's concrete slabs with the right underlayment. |
| Porcelain or ceramic tile | $7–$15per sq. ft. | The Florida standard. Large-format tile and complex patterns cost more. |
| Engineered hardwood | $6–$13per sq. ft. | A real wood wear layer on a stable core. Needs a moisture barrier over concrete. |
| Removing old tile | $2–$7per sq. ft. | Dust-controlled removal costs more. Very old tile or adhesive may need asbestos testing first. |
The ranges include standard installation and basic transitions. They don't include moving furniture, new baseboards, leveling a badly uneven slab or stairs, which are often priced separately.
| Project | What's included | Estimated range |
|---|---|---|
| One room in tile | 12 × 14 ft room (168 sq. ft.), porcelain tile | $1,200–$2,500 |
| Bedrooms in engineered wood | 600 sq. ft. of engineered hardwood | $3,600–$7,800 |
| Whole home in LVP | 1,500 sq. ft. of luxury vinyl plank | $7,500–$13,500 |
| Whole home in tile | 1,500 sq. ft. of porcelain tile | $10,500–$22,500 |
| Tile out, LVP in | Remove 1,500 sq. ft. of old tile, install LVP | $10,500–$24,000 |

Porcelain tile is the traditional Florida floor: durable, waterproof and cool underfoot, but hard, cold-looking to some, and more expensive to install. Luxury vinyl plank is warmer and quieter, water resistant and less expensive to install, though it can dent and show wear sooner. Engineered hardwood brings real wood to a slab home if moisture is controlled. Laminate is the budget option but is a poor choice anywhere water can stand. Our best flooring for Florida homes guide compares the main options in more depth, including slab moisture testing and flood zone rules.
Some older vinyl tiles, sheet flooring and adhesives contain asbestos. If your home was built decades ago and you're removing original resilient flooring or black adhesive, have it tested before demolition. Our guide to preparing your house for a renovation covers testing and safety, and renovating an older Florida home covers what else to check first.
Florida doesn't license flooring installers at the state level, and a 2021 state law, which took full effect for existing local licenses in July 2025, stops most local governments from requiring a license for flooring, tile and similar trades. So the usual license check doesn't apply. Instead, check reviews over time, ask to see recent jobs, confirm general liability insurance and workers' compensation (or an exemption), and get a written, itemized quote. When quotes differ widely, our guide to why contractor quotes differ helps you compare them.
Porcelain tile and luxury vinyl plank are the most popular because they handle humidity, spills and sand well. Tile is very durable and stays cool; LVP is warmer, quieter and usually costs less to install. Engineered wood works if moisture from the slab is managed.
Usually, yes. Tile over tile raises floor heights at doors and transitions and can crack if the old tile is loose. Removal is noisy and dusty, so ask about dust-controlled removal.
Replacing floor coverings generally doesn't need a building permit. Condominiums often have their own rules, including sound-control underlayment requirements for upper floors.
Florida doesn't issue a state license for flooring installation, and since July 2025 local governments generally can't require one either. That makes checking references, insurance and past work especially important.
